Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Bengal government has officially appointed former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar as the new Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police. The announcement was made during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, and Rajeev Kumar assumed office as DG at Bhawani Bhawan on Thursday afternoon. The outgoing State DGP, Manoj Malviya, graciously handed over the charge to Rajiv Kumar, marking a smooth transition of leadership.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Dilip Ghosh expressed hope for a fresh start in the new year with the appointment of the new DGP and Chief Secretary. While expressing optimism, Ghosh also took a dig at TMC stating that "no competent officer can do any good work in this autocratic admistrative environment of Mamata government."
